Atlanta, GA –
The rumored risky reboot for the 90s hit sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air , has been striking curiosity and anxiety in the industry. Questions began to fly about the possibilities of bringing the show into modern production but for some (including me), it’s believed that greatness should be left alone.
Nonetheless, since the rumors began it has been a conversation piece for quite sometime. The Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith, has even openly expressed he would [have to] play Uncle Phil if the show were to get rebooted:
There were also speculations about the ‘Fresh Princess of Bel-Air’ that began to surface earlier this year but recently, the new rumor involves Chance the Rapper. Well, it’s not really a rumor but cast member and legendary DJ, Jazzy Jeff kind of opened the conversation up when he mentioned how much he’d love to see Chance as the Prince:
What does Chance think? Funny you should ask. Out of respect for the legendary cast, he’d prefer to stay off of the screen. He talked all about it on Pitchfork’s ‘Insight Out’ Podcast, “I’m not going to play the fucking Fresh Prince,” he chuckled. “I love the Fresh Prince. I love Will Smith. I have so much respect for him. I would never do that. But you know what, I would write on that joint,” he says to host Adrienne Samuels Gibbs.
What do you think? I mean, we know that Issa ‘no’ but just for laughs, would you like to see Chance play the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?
