ASAP Rocky has been in the middle of a legal battle overseas after an alleged assault in Stockholm, Sweden. The rapper has been thrown behind bars and has had his request for release denied. On Tuesday (July 9th), Rocky’s manager Chace Infinite took to Instagram asking fans to support ASAP Rocky’s battle in Sweden by signing a petition on Change.org. According to the petition, Rocky has been denied legal counsel and has been held in “inhumane conditions” including feces, in-edible food, and solitary confinement. Prohibition of legal counsel is a violation of human rights.
“Upon being detained, Rocky was denied his request to counsel which is in violation of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which Sweden is a signatory,” Infinite writes in the petition. “Everyone has the same rights to be treated fairly upon detainment and should be given fair and equal access to such rights.”
He continues, “the conditions of the facility are horrific. Some of the inhumane conditions Rocky and his colleagues are facing at the Stockholm Detention Center include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions, access to palatable and life sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions.”
Rocky’s trial is set to begin mid-late August but the hip hop community is fighting to have him home before then.
