Don’t look now but another Thanksgiving is here. I know, the year flew by and you “can’t believe that it’s Thanksgiving already” but you’ve got to wake up and you’ve got to get in the game.
My family has been a riot over the last decade, it’s been like rocket science trying to get everyone together and keep it drama free. I used to go down to Elberton, Georgia with my headphones and homework, prepared to act like my family didn’t exist but then, my Grandpa J.J. passed away suddenly a week before Thanksgiving; it changed my holiday mindset forever. It helped me to understand what was truly important during the holidays and over the last 3 or 4 years, I’ve been doing everything I can to help us enjoy holidays as a family. I learned a valuable lesson:
Family don’t last forever.
I remember looking at Grandpa J.J. in his last ‘bed’ just thinking about those Thanksgiving dinners at his house that I would rather be in the corner on my phone instead of talking to him and the rest of my family. So many moments of genuine family time stolen by my immaturity and selfishness. I immediately regretted all of those moments.
This holiday season, I don’t want you to be regretful of the precious family time that you wasted in your phone or being ‘stand-offish’. Your loved ones and loved moments won’t last forever. It’s important that you take every single one of them for face value and embrace those moments. Spend some time with your loved ones this year because one day we won’t be able to.
Happy Holidays, thank you for reading!
